Cogeneration (CHP) units
Cogeneration Systems for Power Source Security
Overview
Gas cogeneration system with black out start function can supply power to pre-selected critical load with city gas even in the event of a gride outage.
We will design and propose the most suitable cogeneration system for customer’s load and usage pattern including in power outage.
We have also developed grid outage-resilient models of and peripheral devices for micro-cogeneration system “Genelight”, making it possible to supply power for lighting in hospitals, welfare facilities, gymnasiums, and other facilities that require a power source during grid outages. The 5 kW model of “Genelight” has a 200 V single-phase output, so it is suitable for supplying power to single-phase loads, such as small-capacity lighting. The 25 kW and 35 kW models of “Genelight” can supply power to a 200 V power load, so by combining it with a gas heat pump (GHP), you can continue to use air conditioning during a grid outage.
In this way, grid outage-resilient “Genelight” can be used to improve power source security.
Relevant models:
CP5D2Z (grid outage-resilient 5 kW “Genelight”)
CP25D2Z (grid outage-resilient 25 kW “Genelight”)
CP35D2Z (grid outage-resilient 35 kW “Genelight”)
During normal operation, “Genelight” is grid-tied via a switching unit, supplying power to general and critical loads. Once a grid outage occurs, the switching unit automatically disconnects “Genelight” from the grid; then it connects “Genelight” to critical loads, supplying power to critical loads even during a grid outage.
Features of Grid Outage-resilient System of “Genelight”
・Automatically starts to supply power to critical loads when a grid outage occurs.
(If at rest when a grid outage occurs, “Genelight” will automatically start up to supply power.)
・The 5 kW model of “Genelight” supplies single-phase 200 V power.
・The 25 kW and 35 kW models of “Genelight” supply three-phase 200 V power. (To supply power to a single-phase load, a three-phase to single-phase transformer is required.)
・When a grid outage occurs, self-sustaining, parallel power supply is available, combining up to eight units of the 35 kW model or four units of the 25 kW model of “Genelight”. This capability makes it possible to supply power to large loads that cannot be powered by a single unit. This feature is highly recommended for customers who wish to update their existing small- to medium-sized cogeneration systems.
・In addition to supplying power to lighting during grid outages, a wide range of power source security options are available. (See application examples below.)
